Stepanakert (Armenian: ÕÕ¿Õ¥ÖƒÕ¡Õ¶Õ¡Õ¯Õ¥Ö€Õ¿ Step'anakert; Eastern Armenian pronunciation: [É™stÉ›pʰanaˈkɛɾt]), Khankendi (Azerbaijani: XankÉ™ndi, [xÉ‘nkænˈdi]) and originally called Vararakn (Armenian: ÕŽÕ¡Ö€Õ¡Ö€Õ¡Õ¯Õ¶, [vararaˈkÉ™n]), is the capital and the largest city of the de facto Republic of Artsakh. The Republic has limited international recognition, being deemed part of the Republic of Azerbaijan by most countries. As of 2015, the population of Stepanakert is 55,200.
